The tournament will be on Saturday, Feb. 25th this year. Entry fee ($60.00 per team). Click here for rules. It seems like there is a little more interest this year and we may have more teams than we can handle. So we'd like to get everyone committed as soon as possible. The order in which the team entries come in to me will determine the seed of the teams in the schedule, so it will be like “first come first served” in determining who plays who for their first game. To register, please get back to Mike by email ASAP. Mike will provide you payment instructions at that time. Click here for registration form.
Also, as we did last year, we would like each team to provide a prize for the prize table, donated by some business they may know. Ie. A pair of hockey gloves donated by XYZ Towing company, or maybe a gift certificate from some company for their particular business like a restaurant or something. If each team can come up with something in the $50-$100 range it will give us a terrific prize table for the draw.

IT'S NOT TO LATE TO REGISTER FOR THE 7TH ANNUAL VANKOUGHNET CUP COMING SATURDAY FEBRUARY 28TH! ---------- Message from the guy who started it: Some of you may know that I created and have been organizing this fun little annual 3 on 3 shinny tournament since 2009, on the best outdoor community rink (which I have played a "small" part in maintaining since 2006) in the village of Vankoughnet. I am taking a break from all that this year...or at least I thought I was. The fact is I just have too much on my plate this year. It seems my little tournament (60+ participants last year) has found it's way into the hearts of more people than I thought it had. I have received a lot of calls and emails from people interested in having it run again this year. It's nice to hear so many love it as much as I do. It's even better to know that there are some willing to step forward and organize this years tournament in my stead. So if you want to take part or volunteer your time this year in the effort to keep the cup alive, please contact Mike Sturgeon for more details. Feel free to connect with me as well if you wish. I look forward to carrying on the tradition next year. Chris Varga Post event highlights With 8 competitive teams, 8 recreational teams and a total of 65 competitors the 2014 Vankoughnet Cup proved to be the largest competition we have had to date. Thanks once again to mother nature for providing ideal weather conditions and providing a comfortable experience for players and spectators alike. The teams put on a great show and we saw some great hockey. The real champion of this event was the spirit of the community. Something special happened here again. We came together, chipped in and stood united as one team, working to make the common goals of fun, family and fellowship happen. Recreational/family division champions: The Bears The most exciting game of the day was the recreational division championship between the Bears and the Loggers. It took a sudden death overtime to crown the champion. The game could have really gone either way, so both teams should truly be called champions for the day.A new champion was crowned In the competitive division this year....sort of. The Peterborough Goons took the trophy this year, consisting of a former member of the 3 time defending champions the Warriors. It was a very competitive division this year. Many of the games ended with a maximum 1 or 2 goal spread, and 2 sudden death over time victories were needed in the preliminary matches to decide a winner. Event photographer Pat Wells... with a few shots from Kaitlyn Malave, Nick McIsaac, Chris Varga, Susan Boyes and Kevin Ruttan The sportsmanship and cross team comradery displayed this year by all teams, was inspiring. Good will, fun and friendship reigned victorious. The true spirit of the event was in full effect. Thanks to every participants for keeping the real prize in mind at all times. Thanks to all who volunteered their time to make the tournament a great success! Stay tuned for more event info, photo's and video How do you like our new commemorative puck? We only have a limited amount, but would be happy to reserve one for you, to pickup the day of the tournament or before. Any left over pucks not paid for by tournament day will be sold that day. Please help us continue to provide great local happening and offering. You can also make a charitable donation to the Village Square board the day of the event, or contact one of the Village Square board members at a later date. ![]() Sorry, but we do not have any more room for teams, but please come watch the action and enjoy a bite to eat at the village Square. Click here for family/recreational division details The lunch this year is being run separately by the Village Square board. Hot beverages and muffins will be available starting at 8am, everything else will be served starting at 11:30 until finished 2013 competitive highlights Last years tourney details The 5th Annual Vankoughnet Cup 2013 EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
For the 3rd straight year, the Warriors won the 2013 Vankoughnet Cup Competitive division. It was their hardest test yet (in fact losing a preliminary game to the team they ended up beating in the finals). However, superior team play and passing brought the 3rd championship! It was a perfect day, attended by many spectators. |
